PLEASE HELP US SAVE ANIMALS LIKE EBONY

This is Ebony with her pal Tootsie. Ebony was rescued from BARC in mid 2009. She had just given birth to a litter of 5 kittens, the umbilical cord still attached to her and one of her babies, yet she was already on the list to be killed that night at BARC. Luckily, she was spotted by a foster parent who, although already over loaded with foster cats, couldn’t bear leave this little mommy and her hours old babies there to die.  So she took Ebony home.

Ebony had become sick with an upper respiratory infection at BARC and, according to BARC's records, was given no medication during her stay there. Normally, URI's can be easily treated, but because Ebony had gone so long without medication she was very ill. She was so sick that the foster mom's vet did not know if she would make it. Ebony did make it but her babies got very ill with the same URI and all died one by one, even though the foster mom tried in vain to save them.

It is heartbreaking to think that this wonderfully sweet, talkative little kitty would have been killed that night at BARC. It is equally heartbreaking to think that, had she been given medication, her babies would have lived.

 

Unfortunately, this scenario is an all too common, every day occurrence in shelters.

 

Approximiately 80,000 pets just like Ebony die in Houston's five kill shelters every year.  But it doesn't have to be this way.  Shelters all over the US and other countries have stopped the killing entirely.  With your help, Houston's pets won't be needlessly killed.   No Kill is within our reach, but Houstonians must join together and demand that our shelters adhere to the No Kill model of sheltering.   It CAN be done but we must work together to make it happen.
